Brasilia, Brazil's Candidate for the 2018 World Water Forum
World Water Council executives assess the city’s ability to host the 2018 forum from August 21-23, 2013
Brasilia is still competing for the chance to host the 8th annual World Water Forum, an event that draws nearly 35,000 visitors from 147 countries, according to VisitBrasil.com. From August 21-23, 2013, four executives will visit the city to assess its culture, hospitality, tourism options and more. The proposed venues in Brasilia include The Convention Centre, the Mané Garrincha National Stadium and the Expo Centre.
The event – which has previously been held in Kyoto, Istanbul, The Hague, Marseille, Marrakech and Mexico City–raises awareness about water issues, discusses improving water supply and the sustainable use of water, paves the way for new partnerships and encourages media attention for water issues.
Brasilia meets the requirements to host the event, as it sits between three of the country’s biggest catchment basins, holds 12% of the world’s fresh water supply, has structured policies and practices for water resources management and more.
The only other country still competing is Copenhagen, Denmark. If elected, Brasilia will be the first city in Latin America to host the event.
