Zilwaukee Gets Funds for Disposal Improvement
U.S. Rep. Dale E. Kildee (D-Mich.) announced on Jan. 27 that the city of Zilwaukee will receive a $500,000 grant from the U.S. Department Agriculture for a water and waste disposal improvement project. The municipality has also been approved for a loan of $2.79 million for the project.
The rural development funds will be used to replace 6-inch and 8-inch underdrain segments. The grant and loan will aid in funding 485 sanitary service lead replacements within right-of-way, to rehabilitate 42 manholes, and to disconnect footing drains.
The USDA office of Rural Development provides loans and grants for water, sewer, stormwater, and solid waste disposal facilities in cities and towns of up to 10,000 people and rural areas with no population limits. These loans can be used to construct, repair, modify, expand, or otherwise improve water supply and distribution systems and waste collection and treatment systems, including storm drainage and solid waste disposal facilities.
