WEFTEC Features Chicago's Mayor Daley

Mayor Richard M. Daley will give a keynote speech on "Making Chicago a Global Leader on Water and Sustainability" at WEFTEC.08 on Oct. 20 in Chicago. The Mayor's speech is tied into the Fees, Finance and the Future Session, which begins at 8:30 a.m. Daley's remarks will begin at 11:15 a.m.

Recognized as one of the greenest cities in America, Chicago is an ideal host for this event. Mayor Daley has led the effort to make Chicago a global leader in adapting green practices. Under his leadership, the city has focused on programs and practices that protect water quality, promote sustainability, and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

With a population of nearly 3 million residents, Chicago installed the first-ever municipal green roof in the United States. The city also initiated a Chicago Climate Action Plan while creating green jobs and planting 500,000 new trees.

WEFTEC is the largest water quality conference in North America. The Oct. 18-22 exhibition and conference brings experts in water and wastewater together to discuss the latest developments in research and technology.
