Retailers to Hold First Sustainability Conference
The Retail Industry Leaders Association's first comprehensive conference on environmental sustainability will provide a collaborative forum to discuss methods, means, and vision surrounding compliance practices, according to an Aug. 26 press release.
The conference is set for Sept. 22-24 at the Embassy Suites in Frisco, Texas.
"The RILA Environmental Sustainability & Compliance Conference will focus on environmental compliance and offer industry leaders a forum to share experiences and learn from others about ways to meet and exceed expectations set by regulators," said Casey Chroust, senior vice president of retail operations.
Attendees can look forward to groundbreaking sessions that discuss the Environmental Protection Agency's top enforcement issues, RCRA compliance, recycling and product take-back requirements, RoHS/WEEE & REACH objectives, and merchandise compliance. Participants will also hear from retail leaders with mature sustainability programs that have successfully tackled issues of compliance.
Speakers include representatives from AutoZone, Best Buy, Costco, Fedex/Kinkos, Harris Teeter, Home Depot, IKEA, JCPenney, Limited Brands, Nike, Office Depot, Publix, REI, Starbucks, Target, Walgreens, and Wal-Mart.
The RILA Environmental Sustainability Compliance Conference comes a year after the launch of the RILA Sustainability Initiative (RSI), which was launched to help leading retail companies meet environmental standards and pursue responsible environmentally sustainable activities and business practices.
In related news, the association said it has been working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to promote the launch of a retail-specific Web portal that will streamline information on environmental sustainability and compliance. RILA said that the Web portal is expected to launch late this year.
