The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has honored 47 WaterSense partners at the WaterSmart Innovations conference in Las Vegas, commending their work in water efficiency.
According to a release dated Oct. 5, these entities developed water-efficient products, constructed homes that utilize 30 percent less water, and facilitated access to WaterSense labeled products and advocated for water-saving programs and behaviors.
"This year's WaterSense Award Winners are helping American families save money on their water bills while conserving our precious water resources," EPA Assistant Administrator for Water Radhika Fox said in a statement. "As climate stress continues to affect communities across the country, prioritizing water efficiency in partnership with manufacturers, homebuilders and families is essential to protecting our water for generations to come."
The WaterSense program—which launched in 2006 as a partnership sponsored by the EPA—promotes water-efficient products and raises awareness of water-saving behaviors. Consumers who purchased WaterSense labeled products have saved more than $171 billion in water and energy expenses, over 7.5 trillion gallons of water and 880 billion kilowatt-hours of energy.
Over 42,000 WaterSense labeled products, including faucets, toilets and irrigation controllers, are independently certified to use 20 percent less water.
The recent awards celebrated utilities, manufacturers, builders, retailers and other entities that contributed to the WaterSense mission by promoting, producing or selling its products. The Sustained Excellence Awards, marking pinnacle achievements in WaterSense partnerships, were extended to three new entities this year.
The full list of winners is available on the EPA website.
