Chemtrade Receives New York State Recognition for Pollution Reduction with the Help of Dürr Technology

SCR technology leads to a 90 percent reduction in NOx emissions. The process enters the SCR system at a relatively low temperature, so a heat exchanger/burner combination was incorporated into the system. The heat exchanger greatly improves the overall energy efficiency of the system while maintaining the small footprint Chemtrade required.

Dürr Systems, Inc. Clean Technology Systems announced July 5 that its customer Chemtrade Solutions LLC has been recognized by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for significantly improving local air quality. Chemtrade selected Southfield, Mich.-based Dürr Systems, Inc.'s Ecopure® SCR system after a competitive review of commercial Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) offerings.

Dürr’s Ecopure® SCR system uses specifically designed catalyst beds that facilitate simple bed change-outs and are less susceptible to blockage by particulate matter. Control solutions and an operator interface provide the flexibility to automatically control NOx destruction under a variety of operating conditions while minimizing operator effort. (Durr Group photo) Chemtrade is the only on-purpose manufacturer of sodium nitrite in North America and produces it at a Syracuse, N.Y., facility. Sodium ion is a known SCR catalyst poison, which makes the potential pollution control solutions more challenging. Dürr addressed this by using specifically designed catalyst beds for the SCR that facilitate simple bed change-outs and are less susceptible to blockage by particulate matter. The technology allowed Chemtrade to reduce NOx emissions to the local environment by more than 90 percent, equivalent to more than 500 tons per year.

The Dürr Group has been established in the United States since 1970 and currently employs around 900 staffers. Its new campus in Southfield offers a state-of-art validation, testing, and training center.
