Summertime Fuel Requirements Dismissed in Florida and North Carolina
The EPA has approved requests from 6 counties in Florida and requests in Raleigh and Greensboro, N.C. to remove those areas from federal clean gasoline requirements.
In Florida, the EPA has released six counties (Broward, Dade, Duval, Hillsborough, Palm Beach, and Pinellas) from the 7.8 pounds per square inch fuel requirements during the summer months. This dismissal has been approved because these counties are now within the ozone air quality standards, and will also allow greater flexibility of fuel distribution during the summer months.
“This change is a direct result of collaboration between EPA and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to improve air quality in Florida,” said EPA regional administrator Heather McTeer Toney. “This action is especially important during hurricane season when greater adaptability is needed for the fuel distribution system to support an adequate supply.”
These counties were under the lower volatility requirements since the early 1990’s in order to help the areas achieve and maintain fuel compliance with the ozone standards.
As for North Carolina, Greensboro and Raleigh areas have been removed from fuel regulations because they are also now compliant with current fuel standards.
