The International Ultraviolet Association Honors the NYC Department of Environmental Protection
The department receives an award for UV Engineering Project of the Year
The International Ultraviolet Association (IUVA) has awarded the New York City Department of Environmental Protection the UV Engineering Project of the Year Award. Given out once a year, the honor recognizes the NYC Department of Environmental Protection for their work on the Catskill-Delaware Ultraviolet Disinfection Facility, according to a press release from IUVA.
For the disinfection facility, the NYC Department of Environmental Protection discovered that by combining UV disinfection with source water protection, they could create a filtration system that would provide increased public health protection for residents of New York City. The new system also resulted in a cost that was lower than one from a filtration plant.
Other recipients of the IUVA award include CDM Smith and Hazen and Sawyer, two engineering firms that provided construction management services through their combined ventures Malcolm Pirnie/Arcadis and CH2M HILL.
The annual award recognizes an exemplary application of ultraviolet technology, as well as innovation and the impact it has on society. The award is set to be given to all recipients at the IUVA World Congress on Sept. 25, 2013 in Las Vegas.
