TD Bank Committed to Protecting Forests
On Oct. 10, 2012, TD Banks announced its plans to start protecting forests by decreasing paper usage within the company.
Partnering with The Nature Conservancy, TD Bank will be working to protect 214 acres of forest in New York’s Finger Lakes region and in Central Florida. TD Forests, the North American initiative of TD Bank and TD Bank Group (TD) is dedicated to the success of forest conservation and is raising awareness for this cause across the country. The TD Forests program will work on expanding the amount of protected forests that are cared for by both The Nature Conservancy and the Nature Conservancy of Canada. Within one year of actively participating in this program, JD Bank will protect land area that is larger than New York’s Central Park. At this rate, an area of about two football fields a day will be protected within the next five years.
The TD Forests program has goals to grow the area of protected forest habitat and to reduce the bank’s paper usage by at least 20 percent in 2015. As a way to increase the awareness for forest conservation, JD Bank has brought a piece of nature to the Big Apple. Throughout the entire month of October, an interactive digital wall of virtual forests will be at the TD Bank store on 14th Street and 5th Avenue. Visitors can experience the sounds and views of wildlife and nature through iconic viewfinders that will be traveling between high-visibility locations in Manhattan.
According to a recent survey, more than 90 percent of Americans living within the bank’s Maine to Florida footprint said that the protection of forests and natural ecosystems was important to them. 57 perfect of those who participated in the survey also stated that forests and natural areas are important places for leisure and recreational activities. TD Bank is continuing to grow its environmental portfolio with the addition of TD Forests. The bank strives to concentrate all environmental efforts around three pillars – paper reduction, energy efficiency, and encouraging employee involvement in environmental activities.
