WEF Opens Public Access to Water Environment Research
The Water Environment Federation will offer one article per issue of its journal online.
The Water Environment Federation (WEF) is now offering free access to its research journal, Water Environment Research (WER). This new practice will allow public access to one article per issue on a range of important technical issues such as nutrient removal, stormwater, and biosolids recycling.
“We are very excited to offer this new program that will allow public access to some of the world’s best research in the water quality field,” said WER Editor-in-Chief Mike Stenstrom. “This latest article will be the third paper in WER’s new practice of making one paper per issue publicly accessible. Additionally, WER has started the practice of publishing critical reviews of processes and technologies that are of interest to our membership, and we invite the readership to submit articles for consideration.”
This month’s open access article is a critical review of phosphorus removal by researchers at Washington State University. Enhanced or biological phosphorus removal has become important during the past 10 years due to increasing concerns about the eutrophication of receiving waters as well as the need for an improved understanding of the process.
Published since 1928, WER features peer-reviewed research papers and research notes, as well as state-of-the-art and critical reviews on original, fundamental, and applied research in all scientific and technical areas related to water quality, pollution control, and management. Originally known as the Sewage Works Journal, WER is available in both print and online formats and receives approximately 300 new research submissions each year.
