EPA's McCarthy to Address GHG Rules for Power Plants at EUEC

Gina McCarthy, assistant administrator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Air and Radiation, will be the keynote speaker during the plenary session of EUEC 2011, an energy, utility, and environment conference slated for Jan. 31-Feb. 2 at the Phoenix Convention Center.

The U.S. EPA recently announced a two-year plan to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emission standards under the Clean Air Act for power plants and oil refineries. McCarthy will open the 9 a.m. plenary session Jan. 31 with a presentation about the agency’s schedule to issue proposed regulations for power plants by July 26, 2011, and final regulations by May 26, 2012.

Representatives from the nation’s top energy agencies and organizations will also make plenary presentations about crucial issues facing the industry. Presenters following McCarthy will be Frank Prager, vice president of Environmental Policy and Services, Xcel Energy; Bryan Hannegan, vice president of Environment and Renewables, EPRI; and Mitchell Baer, director of Oil & Gas Analysis, U.S. DOE. Prabhu Dayal, Ph.D., EUEC chair, will close the session at 11:30 a.m.
