MACTEC, Gabel Associates Win NPS Energy Audit Contract

The National Park Service (NPS) has awarded an indefinite delivery Blanket Purchase Agreement, which was funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, to MACTEC and Gabel Associates for energy audits.

The team will perform services in Alaska, Pacific West, Intermountain, National Capital Region and Midwest.

The National Park Service, a bureau of the U.S. Department of the Interior, was established in 1916. It manages, conserves and protects park resources, now comprising 392 park units covering more than 84 million acres in 49 states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

According to Gene Blake, MACTEC’s senior vice president, Federal Programs, key activities will include:

  • developing a baseline of end user energy and water consumption;
  • benchmarking facilities in the EPA’s Energy Star database;
  • conducting energy and water audits;
  • identifying potential energy and water conservation measures; and
  • assessing retro-commissioning and sustainable building implementation plan guiding principles.

The National Parks Service plans to gather information about its facilities in its parks as the first step of a comprehensive plan to decrease its greenhouse gas emissions and power and water consumption.
