Kwame Completes Contracts on St. Louis WWTP

Kwame Building Group of St. Louis has completed the last of eight separate construction management contracts on the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD) Lower Meramec River facility in South St. Louis County.

Kwame, a pure construction management firm, has worked on the project since 2001 as a sub-consultant to Jacobs Engineering (formerly Sverdrup Civil, Inc.), performing 37 percent of the total construction management work.

The new 15-million-gallon per day state-of-the-art MSD wastewater treatment plant replaced the previous lagoon process at this site and at the MSD Baumgartner wastewater treatment facility four miles away. The general contractors include Goodwin Brothers Construction Co., J.H. Berra Construction Co., Inc., Bates Utility Co., Inc., Synagro WWT, Inc., and Gershenson Construction Co., Inc.

Kwame managed construction of the new wastewater treatment facility, providing inspection services, claims management, quality control and schedule monitoring. The eight projects included site preparation, site preloading - Phase I, a 1.5-mile wastewater outfall sewer to the Mississippi River, the wastewater treatment plant, electrical supply, site restoration and landscaping, lagoon decommissioning and sludge removal and, finally, site preloading - Phase II to prepare the site for future facility expansion.
