WaterAid Australia Launches the Walk4Water

This October, WaterAid Australia is running a worldwide initiative called the Walk4Water to encourage people to experience the 10,000 steps required to fetch water -- a burden that is endured by millions of people living in developing nations -- every day.

As a participant, you can also imagine life without water flowing freely from a tap and waking up at dawn and spending up to six hours fetching water for your family's needs

WaterAid Chief Executive Adam Laidlaw explains, "Here in Australia, we are fortunate to enjoy access to safe, clean water. WaterAid works with thousands of people every day who not only walk for hours to collect their water but who are forced to live without access to the most basic sanitation and hygiene education.

"Through the Walk 4 Water, we're giving you a chance to experience the burden endured by over 850 million people who walk over 10,000 steps every day to collect their daily water -- and more importantly, we're giving you the opportunity to help us change this."

WaterAid Australia has a vision of a world where everyone has access to safe water, basic sanitation, and hygiene education.

WaterAid is an international development organization. Its mission is to overcome poverty by enabling the world's poorest people to gain access to safe water, effective sanitation and hygiene education. It also seeks to influence policy at national and international levels to ensure all people have access to this fundamental human right.
