ASCE Seeks Comments on Physical Security Guidelines

The American Society of Civil Engineers’ Environmental and Water Resources Institute (ASCE/EWRI) on Aug. 26 announced it will conduct a public comment period on two professional standards: Guidelines for the Physical Security of Water Utilities and Guidelines for the Physical Security of Wastewater/Stormwater Utilities. The public comment period will be held from Oct. 15 through Nov. 30.

The guidelines for water utilities apply to physical security for facilities used in potable water source, treatment and distribution systems. The guidelines for wastewater/stormwater utilities apply to physical security for wastewater collection and treatment systems (also called sanitary-sewer collection and treatment systems) as well as stormwater systems.

The drafts of these guidelines were developed as a joint effort between ASCE and the American Water Works Association with technical input from the Water Environment Federation under a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

To participate in the public comment period, contact Lee Kusek, ASCE Codes & Standards Administrator at lkusek@asce.org or 703.295.6176. For more information on this standard, or ASCE’s standards program, please contact Leikny Johnson at ljohnson@asce.org or 703.295.6413.

Founded in 1999, ASCE's Environmental and Water Resources Institute is recognized for the integration of technical expertise and public policy in the planning, design, construction and operation of environmentally sound and sustainable infrastructure that has an impact on air, land and water resources.
