Dutch American Experts Set H209 Meeting

Dutch and American business, government, and policy decision makers will come together Sept. 9-10 to share expertise at the H209 Forum, at Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, N.J.

While H209 will explore challenges and find solutions to water issues facing the New York/New Jersey region and The Netherlands, the solutions will also benefit coastal cities worldwide.

Lisa Jackson, administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and Cees Veerman, chair of the Dutch Delta Commission, will be featured speakers. Representatives from IBM, United Water, Arcadis, Nestle, Macquarie, American Water, DHV, Janney Montgomery Scott, American Society of Civil Engineers, and city, state and federal governments will take part. Participants will lay the groundwork for future transatlantic partnerships in all aspects of water management.

H209 is organized by the Henry Hudson 400 Foundation in partnership with Liberty Science Center, Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance and Netherlands Water Partnership, through generous support from many sponsors.

The forum will focus on the critical role of collaborative public/private partnerships in protecting water quality and dealing with the effects of climate change. It will introduce the latest ideas in advanced technology and water systems management through case studies. With the growing privatization of water, the conference will highlight the economic opportunities in waterfront development, changing dynamics of ports, and job growth. To promote support for enlightened policy making, H209 will also present the latest behavioral research on how best to communicate with the public on water issues.

H209 will introduce the next generation of water professionals through a competition for undergraduate students from the NY/NJ region and The Netherlands. The three winners of the New Generation Competition, who have proposed innovative solutions to specific water issues facing coastal cities, will present their proposals at H209. They will then be awarded cash prizes and internships by the Dutch Crown Prince Willem-Alexander at Hoopla on the Hudson: the H209 Future of Water gala, scheduled for Sept. 9 in lower Manhattan.
