Dow Launches Water Scarcity Solutions in Singapore

Dow Water & Process Solutions on June 22 announced its launch of two new DOW™ FILMTEC™ elements for brackish water treatment at Singapore’s International Water Week.

Dow’s new brackish water reverse osmosis (RO) elements, DOW™ FILMTEC™ BW30HR-440i and BW30XFR-400/34i, allow demineralization and other water treatment systems to operate more consistently and with less cleaning and maintenance, making essential industrial and potable water treatment processes more affordable for power plants, manufacturing operations, and municipalities around the world.

The elements are essential developments for power generation and electronics manufacturing, enabling key industries in rapidly developing Asian economies. Both technologies reduce system operating and maintenance costs through improved water quality and extended membrane life, enabling lower cost purified water.

“As part of our corporate commitment to help solve the global water crisis, Dow Water & Process Solutions is continuing to invest in cutting-edge research and development creating solutions for industry, business, and life in established and emerging industrialized areas,” said Ian Barbour, general manager. “With [these elements], we have improved the quality of pure water produced, increased the useful life of our filtration technologies while decreasing the volume of chemicals, resources, and maintenance required to produce clean water.”

The DOW™ Ultrafiltration SFP2880 (UF) redesigned module also was on exhibit. This new element design has 50 percent more membrane active area in a smaller, more compact membrane design, shrinking the overall footprint of the installation by as much as one-half.

Results of a recent Qingdao, China, seawater desalination plant pilot project show the ability of the module to pretreat seawater of high and varying turbidities for drinking water.
