NSF Grants Certification to 3M Coating

3M announced on June 13 that its ScotchkoteTM Spray In Place Pipe 269 Coating received NSF/ANSI Standard 61 certification from the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF).

This certification means the coating meets the rigid standards required for products used in drinking water system components in U.S. water infrastructure. This includes protecting against leaching or migrating of contaminants into the drinking water supply.

“We are pleased that NSF approved 3M Scotchkote coating for meeting ANSI regulations,” said Gary Natwig, marketing development manager for 3M Water Market. “Our product now offers utilities and municipalities an economic, sustainable alternative to traditional water infrastructure rehabilitation methods in their areas.”

The ScotchkoteTM pipe coating allows for the possibility of rapid, same-day return to water service to urban and suburban neighborhoods where pipelines are being coated to protect against corrosion. The coating remedies pipe corrosion, restores pipe width, and enhances water flow using a proprietary chemistry and trenchless application process that provides corrosion protection for years to come, according to the company's press release.
