Florida to Get $4.8 M for Brownfields' Work

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa P. Jackson has announced the availability of an estimated $4.8 million in grants to help communities in Florida clean up brownfields.

The grants include $2.2 million from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009 and $2.6 million from the EPA brownfields general program funding.

Applicants selected to receive Recovery Act funds are:

  • Central Florida Regional Planning - $1 million for Assessment Coalition
  • Clearwater—$400,000 for community-wide assessment
  • Cocoa—$400,000 for community-wide assessment, and
  • Tampa—$400,000 for community-wide assessment.

Applicants selected to receive brownfields general program funds are:

  • Dixie County - $400,000 for community-wide assessment
  • Eustis - $400,000 for community-wide assessment
  • New Smyrna Beach - $400,000 for community-wide assessment
  • Plant City - $400,000 for community-wide assessment
  • St Marks - $400,000 for community-wide assessment and
  • Tallahassee - $600,000 for 3 properties, including the Gaines Corridor area.
