Online Training Focuses on Medical Waste Obligations
Lion Technology, a provider of training, resources, and support for compliance, has created a new online training program to help medical waste shippers understand their regulatory obligations.
Hospitals, medical testing clinics, university research laboratories, "sharp" collection facilities, and manufacturers with health centers all face special challenges when shipping medical waste offsite. The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) hazardous materials ground transportation regulations provide comprehensive requirements for the safe transport of medical wastes that include many special provisions and exceptions.
The DOT mandates training for all employees who perform any pre-transportation function such as packaging, marking, labeling, and filling out and signing shipping papers.
