Online Hub Puts Teachers Closer to Resources

The National Environmental Education Foundation, in partnership with The Weather Channel, on Dec. 8 unveiled www.classroomearth.org, an online network for high school teachers designed to enhance and strengthen environmental education in high school classrooms nationwide.

By harnessing the expertise and passion of teachers around the country, the Web site assists teachers and high schools in weaving cutting-edge environmental curricula into core high school classes, from biology to social studies to art.

"Classroomearth.org is an online network that provides all high school teachers with the resources they need to engage student's now." said Diane Wood, president of the National Environmental Education Foundation. "We need students to be ready to take on the environmental challenges our world is facing; this program will help teachers make sure their students are prepared."

Designed by and for the high school teacher, the Web site boasts cutting-edge resources and technology such as a library with course-specific lesson ideas and curricular connections to current news headlines to help teachers make environmental education fun, hip, and relevant to their students.

This is the first of two Web sites to be launched under the Classroom Earth Program. The second -- designed exclusively for high school students and named Planet Connect -- will launch in February 2009.

Classroom Earth is made possible with a contribution from The Weather Channel. For information on climate and environmental issues, visit www.weather.com/forecastearth.
