American Water CEO to Lead NAWC

Don Correll, president and chief executive officer of American Water, was appointed president of the Board of the National Association of Water Companies (NAWC), a national trade association representing all aspects of the private water service industry.

Correll will serve a one-year term, which began Oct. 21.

"I look forward to furthering NAWC's mission of promoting the value of the private sector as the provider of quality, sustainable, water services and innovative solutions," said Correll. "Partnerships between municipalities and the private sector are an increasingly important strategy for dealing with the nation's water infrastructure challenges, and the NAWC maintains an aggressive set of programs to support the private water service industry and their customers."

The range of NAWC's members' business includes ownership of regulated drinking water and wastewater utilities and the many forms of public-private partnerships and management contract arrangements. NAWC members are in every region of the country and range in size from large companies owning and/or operating many hundreds of utilities in multiple states to individual utilities with only a few hundred customers.

"Don Correll has for years been a leader in the water industry," said Peter Cook, executive director of NAWC.

Correll currently leads a team of more than 7,000 dedicated professionals who provide drinking water, wastewater, and related services to approximately 15 million people in 32 states and Ontario, Canada. He is responsible for developing the overall strategy and vision of American Water and directing its key business development initiatives. Prior to joining American Water in 2006, he led the Pennichuck Corp., a New Hampshire-based water utility holding company. During his tenure, Pennichuck reported solid financial performance and growth in market value and customer service. Correll also spent 25 years with United Water Resources, a leading investor-owned water services company, where he served as chair, president, and chief executive officer.
