Waste Management of San Diego Wins Award

Waste Management of San Diego received an Environmental Responsibility Award at the Industrial Environmental Association's Annual Environmental Summit held at the Catamaran Resort Hotel in October, according to a Nov. 6 press release.

WM received the award for its participation in San Diego County's 2008 Earth Day Universal Waste Campaign to help promote the proper recycling of fluorescent tubes and compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). WM provided participating companies from throughout San Diego County with WM LampTracker Fluorescent Lamp Recycling Systems. WM also participated in a public education event and press conference to help raise awareness of the importance of recycling universal waste such as fluorescent tubes and CFLs.

"We were thrilled to have the opportunity to support the County of San Diego's Universal Waste Campaign and help promote the importance of recycling fluorescent lamps," said Charissa McAfee, manager of Customer Experience. "Waste Management's LampTracker program makes it safe and convenient for businesses and homeowners to properly dispose of fluorescent bulbs and is just one more way we Think Green."

The Industrial Environmental Association's (IEA) Annual Environmental Summit, titled "Navigating in an Ever-Greening World" is California's only statewide environmental summit and is hosted by IEA, along with the California Manufacturers and Technology Association and the Chemical Industry Council of California. This event focuses on climate change, green chemistry, water quality, health, safety, and security programs.
