EPA Seeks Scientific Views on Acrolein, Phenol Criteria

On Sept. 15 in the Federal Register, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency published draft revisions to its national recommended water quality criteria for acrolein and phenol. Scientific views will be accepted on these criteria revisions for 45 days before they are finalized.

EPA recalculated the human health criteria based on its Methodology for Deriving Ambient Water Quality Criteria for the Protection of Human Health (2000). The revised criteria represent a partial update and integrate new reference doses for acrolein and phenol from the agency's Integrated Risk Information System.
