State Issues Transfer Station Permit to Veolia
The Department of Environmental Protection has approved the application from Veolia ES Solid Waste of Pennsylvania Inc. to create a municipal waste transfer station in Paint Township, Clarion County.
The permit was issued following the department's technical review of Veolia's application, which examined the design details of the project. In February, DEP finalized the environmental assessment phase of the review and concluded that the benefits of the project outweigh the known and potential harms.
A significant portion of the municipal waste to be handled at the proposed transfer station would be generated locally. Veolia is requesting an average daily volume permit capacity of 350 tons per day, with a maximum daily volume of 500 tons per day.
Veolia submitted the transfer station application on April 6, 2006, and a public meeting was held Aug. 7, 2007.
The proposed location was previously a heavy equipment maintenance facility operated by Beckwith Machine Company.
