The American Society of Civil Engineers selected Carl A. Strock, P.E., a project director with Bechtel Corp. and former chief of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, to receive the Henry L. Michel Award for Industry Advancement of Research.

The award, which recognizes an individual in the design and construction industry who has helped to increase industry participation in research and in efforts to bring innovations into practice, will be presented on April 30 during the group's annual awards gala in Arlington, Va.

As project director with Bechtel Corp., Strock oversees the Sabine Pass Liquid Natural Gas Terminal in Cameron Parish, La. Prior to joining Bechtel, he served in the U.S. Army for more than 36 years, retiring in 2007 as the chief of engineers and commanding general of the corps.

Among his numerous military awards and decorations, Strock received the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, two Army Distinguished Service medals, two Legions of Merit and two Bronze Star medals. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering from the Virginia Military Institute and Mississippi State University, respectively.
