New DEQ Process for Expedited Reviews of Drinking Water Construction Permits
The Department of Environmental Quality has implemented a new
expedited application review process for drinking water construction
that will be piloted for eligible projects located in the counties of
Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair, and Wayne. Under this new process, the DEQ
is providing, for a fee, an expedited application review process for
construction permits that will initially be completed within 20
business days of receipt of a complete application. In subsequent
years, this will be reduced to 15 business days and finally to 10
business days. The DEQ began accepting applications under the expedited
review process on August 29, 2007.
Eligible projects are limited to water main projects less than or
equal to 10,000 feet. A water main specifically refers to a pipe owned
or controlled by a supplier that may convey water to a customer service
connection or to a fire hydrant. For more information regarding project
eligibility and the expedited application submittal process, please
