Cincinnati School Receives Environmental Grant
The Ohio EPA has given more than $36,000 for an environmental education grant that will allow students in Cincinnati to learn environmental science while also restoring Salway Park as part of a community service project.
The Mill Creek Urban Habitat Restoration project in Cincinnati is one that allows students to provide community service while helping restore and improve Salway Park. This project also gives the students an opportunity to learn about the environment as they work. The Ohio EPA awarded $36,036 for the project and more than $300,000 for 10 other projects across the state.
As part of the Mill Creek project, more than 2,000 students in middle school and high school can participate in the outdoor environmental education programs. Students will be helping improve wetlands and wildlife habitats in the part by planting perennials and edible vegetation for wildlife. Students will also learn to identify native species and be able to track animals using digital applications.
