Google Invests $75 Million in Texas Wind Farms

Panhandle 2, a wind farm just outside of Amarillo, Texas, has received a $75 million investment from Google. This is Google’s 15th renewable energy investment, and their second in the Lone Star State.

With the ability to generate enough energy to power 56,000 U.S. homes, Panhandle 2 is a 182MW facility and was developed by Pattern Energy Group, LP. With the $75 million investment from Google, the wind farm is expected to be fully operational by the end of this year.

Last year, Google invested $200 million in the Spinning Spur wind farm, and the company is also in the works of buying Happy Hereford, another wind farm in Texas. The company is working toward its goal of being completely operated by renewable energy.
