Council to Vote on Gulf Restoration Plan

The Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council will meet Aug. 28 to vote on what's called the "Initial Comprehensive Plan."

The Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council will meet Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 1 p.m. CDT to vote on the Initial Comprehensive Plan: Restoring the Gulf Coast's Ecosystem and Economy (Plan). The public is invited to attend the meeting, which will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Orleans.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce and council Chair Penny Pritzker will preside, with Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal attending as a council member and meeting host. Council representatives from the other Gulf states and participating federal agencies also will attend. Meeting materials, including an agenda, the plan, a response to public comments, and a Programmatic Environmental Assessment, will be available Aug. 21 at http://www.restorethegulf.gov.

In addition to voting, the council will hear from some of its key restoration partners, including representatives from the Deepwater Horizon Natural Resource Damage Trustees, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) RESTORE Science Program.
