Registration Open for Adopt-A-Highway in West Virginia

The West Virginia DEP is accepting applications from now until April 12 for the Saturday, April 27 Adopt-A-Highway Spring Statewide Cleanup.

The Adopt-A-Highway program is provided by the DEP’s Rehabilitation Environmental Action Plan (REAP), and is co-sponsored by the state Division of Highways and the DEP. This program encourages the public to help clean up and eliminate highway trash and improve the quality of the environment.

Last year, more than 5,500 volunteers participated in the Adopt-A-Highway cleanup and cleared over 1,500 miles of roadways across the state. Since the program first started in 1988, more than 63,000 miles of state roads and highways have been cleaned by volunteers.

Individuals, families, churches, businesses, schools, civic organizations, government agencies, and communities are encouraged to register for the cleanup on almost any state-maintained road, back road, or main route. Interstate highways and private roads are not eligible for the program. Garbage bags, work gloves, and safety vests will be provided to the volunteers by the Adopt-A-Highway program.

To register, please call 800-322-5530 or email dep.aah@wv.gov.
