Energy Camps for Tennessee Teachers Now Accepting Applications
The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s Office of Energy Programs are now accepting applications for the 2013 Energy Camps, which provides K-12 teachers with the resources needed to teach students about the science of energy and energy conservation in the classroom.
The 2013 Energy Camps are four-day educational sessions that are free of charge and equip K-12 teachers with the education and resources needed to teach their students about the science of energy and energy conservation in the classroom, while also teaching students how to become leaders in their schools and communities.
“These Energy Camps provide essential tools to teachers, giving them a better understanding of energy conservation,” said TDEC Commissioner Bob Martineau. “The knowledge they will receive at the camps will prepare them to educate the next generation on the importance of energy conservation, providing for a cleaner energy future and benefiting overall community growth.”
Camp activities are presented by award-winning energy professional and educators that address Tennessee science curriculum standards and incorporate Common Core Standards for reading/language arts and mathematics. Each camp includes a one-day trip to energy-related sites, such as TVA’s Cumberland Fossil and Watts Bar Nuclear Power plants.
Teachers can apply for one of the following camps: Montgomery Bell State Park Inn in Burns, Tenn. (June 11-14), Pickwick State Park Inn in Pickwick Dam, Tenn. (June 18-21), and Fall Creek Falls State Park Inn in Pikeville, Tenn. (July 9-12).
