Six Connecticut Towns Hire SourceOne for Energy Services Contract

The Veolia energy company will develop energy efficiency measures for Branford, Durham, Guilford, Killingworth, Madison, and Westbrook

Veolia Energy North America, an operator and developer of sustainable energy systems, announced that SourceOne, its energy management and advisory services subsidiary, has been selected to perform energy services on behalf of six Connecticut municipalities: Branford, Durham, Guilford, Killingworth, Madison and Westbrook.

The overall goal of this effort is to achieve energy savings of at least 5 percent across all six communities, with an emphasis on projects that involve regional cooperation and savings.

The six towns developed a regional energy commission and jointly applied for and received a $250,000 grant from the State Office of Policy and Management. SourceOne was selected from a list of seven finalists. The scope of the energy services delivered will include energy audits, renewable energy assessments, procurement review and assistance, grant/incentive research, short- and long-term energy conservation projects, and project planning.

Vincent Martin, president of SourceOne, said, “Our approach will be tailored to meet each town’s long-term needs, as well as the requirements of the regional energy commission. We have an excellent track record in the New England area, and we are excited by this opportunity.”

The project is part of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program, which was created to assist U.S. cities, counties, and states to develop, promote, implement, and manage energy efficiency and conservation projects and programs. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) appropriated $3.2 billion for EECBGs to be distributed by the U.S. Department of Energy across the country. Entities in Connecticut are eligible to receive EECBG ARRA funding totaling up to $24.5 million. Grants can be used for energy efficiency and conservation programs and projects communitywide, as well as renewable energy installations on government buildings.

SourceOne is a nationally recognized energy management and strategic advisory services company, providing support to businesses who view power as critical to their operations, offering a strategic, customized approach to utilizing available resources, and generating new solutions. With offices in Boston, New York City and Los Angeles, SourceOne manages more than 850 megawatts (MW) of electric power, 2 bcf of natural gas, and $500 million of utility bill processing.
