GM Obtains Landfill-Free Status at 103rd Facility
GM’s Components Holdings LLC plant in Lockport, N.Y. has become the automaker’s 103rd facility to obtain landfill-free status, putting the company one step closer to achieving its goal of having 125 landfill-free sites by 2020.
According to a Waste & Recycling News article, the automaker GM has achieved its 103rd landfill-free facility at Components Holdings LLC by reusing, recycling, and converting waste into energy from its daily operations. The GM facility is responsible for making heating and air conditioning components and radiators for several Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, and Buick vehicles.
Last year, the Lockport facility was able to recycle more than 6 million pounds of aluminum by recycling various byproducts of metals, pallets, plastic, and cardboard while helped that site generate around $3.7 million in revenue this year.
"Landfill-free became a reality because of our dedicated team," Patrick Curtis, Lockport's plant manager, said in a statement. "With their feedback, we determined the best places for recycling containers so that we can easily separate our waste. Our goal is to make recycling convenient so it doesn't disrupt their routine."
