Family Farm Operation Contracts with SW&R for Recycling

Southern Waste & Recycling will provide recycling services for the offices and processing plants of Fieldale Farms in Georgia.

Fieldale Farms Corporation, an independent poultry producer, has contracted Southern Waste & Recycling (SW&R), a national provider of commercial waste and recycling management services, to provide exclusive recycling services for the company's North Georgia offices and processing plants.

The recycling management firm will help Fieldale Farm’s environmental team develop and deploy a comprehensive recycling program.

“Southern Waste & Recycling worked closely with our team to perform a thorough site inspection and really get to know our needs,” said Fieldale Farms Sustainability Director Shane Williams. “We had previously not been able to identify a partner who could provide this type of comprehensive service and still meet the strict requirements of our industry.”

SW&R will provide recycling services for five Fieldale Farms facilities including the headquarters in Baldwin, administration offices in Cornelia, and the processing plants in Cornelia, Gainesville, and Murrayville. Materials that will be recycled include plastics or poly grade materials, cardboard, mixed office paper and cafeteria materials (such as aluminum cans and plastic bottles).

The company uses a flexible approach to providing services, enabling it to meet the strict requirements of waste handling dictated by FDA and OSHA for the food processing industry.

“Although the logistical requirements of this program were quite extensive, we were pleased to present a program that addresses their requirements on every front,” states Southern Waste President Phil Kitchens.

“The real selling point for us was their ability to come in and turn on the zero cost service with no up-front capital investment required on our part,” Williams said.

Founded in 1972, Fieldale Farms is one of the largest independent poultry processor in the world. Its three production plants produce fresh and frozen chicken for sale in the United States. It also ships internationally to more than 50 countries and offers private-label chicken products, along with its namesake Fieldale Farms brand, for foodservice and retail food customers.
