Wandering the Web

EPA's Technology Innovative Program Clu-In
The Hazardous Waste Clean-Up Information (CLU-IN) Website provides information about innovative treatment and site characterization technologies. It describes programs, organizations, publications, and other tools for federal and state personnel, consulting engineers, technology developers and vendors, remediation contractors, researchers, community groups and citizens. The site was developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency but is intended as a forum for all waste remediation stakeholders.

The site is a public service of the Technology Innovation Program, out of EPA's Office of Superfund Remediation and Technology Innovation.

Anguil Environmental Systems
Anguil Environmental Systems' fully redesigned Website, http://anguil.com/, focuses on information efficiency, quality content and effortless navigation.

Marketing Manager Kevin Summ says: “Anguil strives to be a resource for consultants, engineers and end users in need of air pollution control and energy recovery systems. We designed the new Website with that objective in mind.” The company's case studies are now searchable by the 16 different industries it serves.

VEC Composite Technology
The Website of VEC Composite Technology, a fully integrated composite solutions company, features information on the company's technology, applications, production process and more.

The manufacturer uses advanced thermosetting and thermoforming techniques to reduce the capital and time needed to make composite products. Company computers control a myriad of complex variables that reduce styrene emissions by more than 90 percent.

John Wirt, president of the company, said: "We are currently working on revolutionizing the production of wind turbine blades for the Wind Energy industry. The deficiencies of traditional wind blades include poor bonding between sections, delaminations and voids, all of which can lead to blade failure and ultimately to blade replacement.”

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
NOAA has launched State of the Coast, a new Website that provides coastal managers, planners and officials at all levels of government a snapshot of statistics, facts and graphics about America’s 95,000-miles of coastline. The site provides the tools for better decision-making and for communicating the importance of healthy coastal ecosystems for a robust national economy and better quality of life.

Created and maintained by NOAA’s National Ocean Service, the website's indicators are based on longer-term, national datasets. It offers quick facts and detailed statistics about the coast's extraordinary benefits to society but also its degraded state and continuing threats to its health, including impacts of a changing climate. The site also offers case studies and management success stories that highlight often complex connections across several themes.

Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment
Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment has launched a new Website, www.nicholas.duke.edu/oilspill, to provide reporters, policymakers and concerned citizens with the latest news and images of the spill, along with links to a list of researchers from Duke and North Carolina Sea Grant who can provide timely commentary on spill-related science, economics and policy.

The site includes links to posts by Nicholas School Dean William L. Chameides, who has been blogging about the spill and its impacts at www.thegreengrok.com.

Markit Eco
Markit, a global financial information services company, launched Markit Eco, a Web-based platform offering guidance, tools and services to assist organizations in their carbon and environmental management programs, including greenhouse gas disclosure and development of effective corporate sustainability and climate change strategies.

The site is designed to support the environmental asset and liability management needs of both public and private sector organizations. Organizations that need to comply with emerging emissions legislation in markets around the world require a central hub to manage their emissions management strategy, and tools to help their organization to successfully mitigate and/or offset their emissions, as well as disclose that status to regulators, investors, clients, employees and voluntary reporting bodies.

Partners participating in the launch include: IDEAcarbon, Misys, Baker & McKenzie, Markit Environmental Registry, Carbon Trade Exchange, and the Carbon Disclosure Project.

Terex
Terex makes it easier for customers to shop for and purchase used equipment with the launch of an online resource that allows construction contractors to access spec information, photos and MSRP on used construction, roadbuilding and aerial work platform equipment for sale through the company.

“We know that customers today are making equipment decisions differently because of the economy,” said John Poag, operations sales manager, Terex Construction Americas. “Savvy contractors know that buying used equipment can be a smart way to reduce investment cost and increase profit margins. To make it simple for our customers to find the equipment they are looking for, Terex has listed all available used equipment inventory on www.terex.com/used, allowing customers to ‘shop’ 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for what they need.”

Once a customer selects a piece of equipment to purchase, representatives from Terex Construction Americas and Terex Financial Services enlist the customer’s nearest authorized Terex distributor to complete the sale. “Our goal is to connect our customers with Terex distributors for financing, service, parts and future equipment needs,” said Poag.
