Brownfields Workshops Set for 2011 Grant Competition

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 7 will host a series of four free workshops during April and May in Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, and Kansas for representatives of eligible participant groups in the 2011 Brownfields grant competition.

Each half-day workshop will cover the basics of submitting a proposal to EPA Brownfields Program and offer guidance for improving the quality of a proposal. The workshop will explain the different types of grants, who may apply for them, how the grant application process works, and tips for writing good grant applications.

Individuals from local, state, and tribal governments; non-profits; coalitions; land clearance authorities; and quasi-governmental entities interested in brownfields assessment, cleanup or revolving loan fund grants should attend.

The workshops will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.:

  • April 27, Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality, 2717 South 8th St., Lincoln, Neb.;
  • May 4, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Roaring River Conference Room, 1730 East Elm St., Jefferson City, Mo.;
  • May 12, Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, 300 East 9th Street (I-80 at Exit 242), Coralville, Iowa, 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
  • May 17, Curtis State Office Building, 1000 SW Jackson St., Suite 530, Topeka, Kan.

At the conclusion of each workshop, attendees will be able to participate in scheduled 15-minute individual consultations. Consultations must be scheduled at the time of workshop registration.

Real-time Webinars will be available for individuals who cannot attend the workshops in person. Registration, high speed internet access and a telephone are necessary to participate. To register, contact Sabine Martin, 785.532.6519, or e-mail at smw@ksu.edu.
