Aerodynamic Kenworth Earns SmartWay Certification

Kenworth Truck Company's aerodynamic Kenworth T700 model has received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay(SM) program certification.

“We welcome the EPA SmartWay recognition and certification of the Kenworth T700,” said Bill Kozek, Kenworth general manager and PACCAR vice president. “Kenworth continually pushes the development envelope to achieve enhanced fuel economy and reduced emissions and our latest efforts have produced the new T700, which has the lowest aerodynamic drag of any Kenworth truck in company history.”

The aerodynamic design of the new truck model integrates the hood, bumper, fenders, headlamps, fairings, windshield and roof in a precise, clean manner for the resulting fuel-efficient and stylish shape.

In addition to aerodynamic trucks, the company’s fuel-savings technology solutions include liquefied and compressed natural gas vehicles and medium duty diesel-electric hybrids. In 2009, Kenworth became the first truck manufacturer to receive EPA's Clean Air Excellence award in recognition of its environmentally friendly products.

The SmartWay Transport Partnership is an innovative, collaboration between EPA and the freight industry designed to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions. To earn certification, trucks must offer a full aerodynamic package, including integrated roof fairings, fuel tank side fairings, tractor-mounted gap reducers, aerodynamic bumpers and aerodynamic mirrors, low rolling resistance tires, and idle reduction technology readiness.
