SAIC, Bulova to Develop Perchlorate-free Simulators
Science Applications International Corporation has awarded a $574,153 research and development contract to Bulova Technologies Group, Inc. to develop “perchlorate free” energetic mixes for use in the U.S. Army’s M118 and M119 Booby Trap Simulators, according to a June 25 press release.
The work will be performed at the company’s Ordnance Systems facility in Mayo, Fla. The research tasks require Bulova to develop mixes that will reduce materials that have a negative effect on the environment. The study includes an initial production run that will facilitate a smooth and seamless transition into full-scale production.
SAIC plays an important role in assisting the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) in the development of environmentally compliant solutions for DOD operations and training. In January 2009, SAIC announced an up to $25 million award from Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for the development of cellulosic-based alternatives to petroleum-derived jet fuel used and consumed by the DOD and U.S. Forces worldwide.
